Addon Description

This tool sets permanent, generic, non personally identifiable opt-out cookies in the user's browser, which will prevent 33 different online advertising networks from collecting information on that user. Unlike other earlier opt-out solutions, this tool will make the cookies completely persistent. That is, clearing the browser's cookies will delete all other installed cookies, except these. Users wishing to delete these 40+ cookies (some advertising networks require multiple cookies, for different domain names) must first remove the add-on, before then deleting all installed cookies from the preferences window. This tool is based on the Advertising Cookie Opt Out Plugin by Valentin Gheorghita, a Google Engineer, which the company released under the Apache 2 open source license. The author's modifications have been released under the same Apache 2 license. For a list of the 33 advertising networks that this tool applies to, please visit the developer's site. This add-on is not affiliated with or approved by the Network Advertising Initiative, Google or anyone other than the author. IMPORTANT: There is a bug in Firefox which impacts this add-on. If you wish to use the latest version of this add-on (which is stuck in the "experimental" sandbox and thus requiring you create an addons.mozilla.org account to download it), you must ENABLE third party cookies. If third party cookies are turned off in your preferences, installation will fail with an invalid file hash error. This is a known bug (bugzilla # 437174), it sucks, and impacts the users of this add-on more than most (since these users are more likely to be paranoid about cookies). If you want to block turn third party cookies off, you will need to use the older version of this add-on that is not marked "experimental".
